Over the last few months, we’ve explored the home buying and selling process from the perspective of different family members who have recently moved. We’ve heard from teenagers, pre-teens (ages 9-12), younger kids (ages 5-8), and Mums.

Now, it’s the dad’s turn to express his views, worries, and guidance on moving with a family. Here’s what Dave had to say.

“When we first saw the property, it appeared almost perfect, meeting all our criteria. But that initial joy quickly turned into numerous questions. Could we see our family living here? What updates would be necessary, and were they feasible and affordable for us? We decided as a family to go ahead, and our offer was accepted.”

“With fluctuating interest rates, finding the right mortgage became our main concern. I spent a lot of time searching for the best mortgage option for us, which was quite stressful while we waited to see if we would get approved.”

“Saying goodbye to our house, where we had made so many memories and improvements, was emotionally complex. I hadn’t fully realized how tough moving on would be, especially hearing the kids’ concerns and opinions. But in the end, everyone was looking forward to the move.”

“Keeping our property chain intact was a struggle. My biggest worry was disappointing our children, who were really looking forward to the new home. With continuous communication and the help of our real estate agent, we managed to complete the deal.”

“The best advice I can offer any parent during a move is to keep your kids involved, maintain a sense of humor and perspective, control what you can, and use a skilled agent to handle your sale. It’s better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.”
